Scunder®BD35 is available as a 35% active solution of Dodecylguanidine Hydrochloride. DGH is a non-oxidizing, liquid, nitrogen-based organic for use in aqueous industrial systems as a broad spectrum biocide, effective in controlling bacteria, yeast and fungi.

Water cooling towers, sewage disposal lagoons, additive to preserve finished paper and paperboard products (including food contact surfaces), brewery pasteurizer water, industrial disposal water, air washer water systems, waste water systems, sewage effluent water, sewage systems, industrial processing water, non-potable water, adhesives, glues, coatings, oil recovery drilling mud, secondary oil recovery injection water, polymers, latex, resin emulsions, latex emulsions, paper-making chemicals, alum solutions, printing pastes, evaporate condenser water, heat exchange water, disposable diapers, and slurries.

•It is recommended for recirculating waters, as a slug treatment at dosage rates of 20-60 ppm, applied at a frequency of one to three times per week, depending on the severity of the problem. In extreme conditions dosing with up to 100 ppm may be necessary.

The surfactant characteristics of the active ingredient can aid in the loosening of slime deposits and in the penetration of chlorine and hypochlorite into microbial growths.

•It is used as an antimicrobial agent in paper and paperboard products at a level of 0.4 to 0.8% (of weight of paper), depending on the end use application.

•It is also used in polymeric emulsions and coatings as an antimicrobial agent in concentrations limited to 0.03% or more depending on type of application.

•In addition it is also used in adhesives, glues, chemicals for oil recovery drilling mud, diapers etc. as an agent to resist biodeterioration

•Effective over a broad pH range(1~12).

•Broad spectrum effectiveness against bacteria, yeast and fungi.

•Does not contain or release formaldehyde.

•Effective at low concentrations.

•Compatible with many preservatives and milde cides.

•Easy handling liquid formulation.

•Extremely effective for controlling sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB).

•Non-corrosive to metallurgy at use concentrations.

•Non-oxidizing: will not be consumed by reducing substances in water.

•Can be used in conjunction with other non-oxidizing biocides and in chlorine, hypochlorite treatments and Bromine

METHOD OF ACTION

DGH is a strongly cationic surface-active biocide, which acts as a broad spectrum agent by disrupting the cell envelope of most microorganisms.

In addition, it disrupts the conformation and activity of a variety of enzyme systems and it reacts with anionic groups of cellular membrane systems, thus interfering with permeability and transport mechanism.

NOTE TO FORMULATORS

Formulators should test the compatibility of DGH with other components of the system and determine the efficacy and stability of the formulated product. Generally speaking, DGH can be blended with Isothiazoline, Quats, Sulfone, DTEA, Bronopol to enhance the biocidal efficiency.
